ARTIST’S BIO:
Noah Starer is a self-taught ceramics artist. Born in 1968 in Los Angeles, California, Starer took pottery and craft classes in high school and college, but eventually focused on sociology and human services. In 1994, he received his Master’s degree in Social Work from Boston University, and worked as a social worker for 30 years. During his graduate studies, he also joined a community pottery studio and began producing retail ceramic work. He continued working in this way for the next decade, while moving around the United States. In 2012, he opened his own ceramics studio in rural Washington, where he turned his attention to the naked clay movement and alternative firing techniques, specifically aluminum foil saggar firing. As of 2014, his work was being sold and exhibited across the United States, and, in March 2016, he premiered a solo exhibition at Eutectic Gallery in Portland, Oregon. In 2017 he relocated to New Mexico, exhibiting another solo show, “Naked Clay”, in Santa Fe New Mexico and became a ceramics instructor. He lived and worked in New Mexico until 2020 when he returned Seattle WA and his career as a clinical social worker and therapist. He is currently living in Los Angeles California.
